George A. Davala III Scholarship Award

Empowering the Youth of Indian River County

Donate in George's Memory

George Davala was a beloved Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County (BGCIRC) from 2017 to 2024. During his time on the Board, his interest and hands-on efforts to bolster the teen program resulted in the creation of the Destinations program, which works with Club members in grades 9-12 to develop a solid plan for their futures following high school graduation.

A cornerstone of Destinations is the Youth of the Year program, designed to recognize our most outstanding young people. Youth of the Year candidates embody Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s priority outcome areas: leadership, character, service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles. Being named a Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Club member can receive. George served as a judge in the annual Youth of the Year competitions, always encouraging kids along the way.

Tragically, George passed away earlier this year. With the support of his family, a memorial fund has been established at BGCIRC to honor his legacy. Contributions made in his memory will endow the George A. Davala III Scholarship Award, which will be granted annually to the winner of the Indian River County Youth of the Year competition, as a testament to the lasting influence of George's work. Thanks to the generosity of those who knew and loved George, the $3,000 annual award will assist the Youth of the Year winner with college, trade school, or military expenses. The Club CFO will manage disbursements.

As a further tribute to George, the Vero Beach Club teen room will be named in his honor.

Although George’s time with the organization was cut short, his positive impact will be felt for many years to come. The George A. Davala III Scholarship Award, a living tribute to his legacy, inspires us to continue his work and ensure that his influence endures.
